What is the weirdest job you’ve ever held?
It is not weird but something I haven’t done again. I used to work as a facilitator in a summer camp for a couple of years. It was a lot of fun but it felt weird because I was seeing the backstage of a camp that I had attended the year before.
What is your favorite all-time game?
I don’t think I can pick just one. I spent a lot of time playing Age of Empiresand the Lord of the Rings strategy games. Super Paper Mario and Mario Galaxy are also very very high on the list.
What games are you playing right now?
Don’t Starve Together. It is such a great and addictive game. I love the cooperative crafting survival theme. It is challenging and fun. I’ve also started playing Transistor. It is such a beautiful game. I’m sure I’ll be spending a lot more time with it.
What motivated you to begin working in the game industry?
I wanted to combine my creativity with my technical skills, and I thought the entertainment industry was the perfect fit for that. I’m particularly interested in location-based entertainment, and Schell Games has a great portfolio of these types of projects.
What inspires you?
Seeing the kids have fun with our games. Especially if we are working on a transformational game, it inspires me to know that we could be making a difference in those kids.
What is your proudest achievement?
There’s a lot of things I’m very proud of. The latest one is creating the Orion Trail prototype. In five days, we took an idea and created a game that everyone enjoyed. It is even being kickstarted right now!
What piques your curiosity?
Problem solving. It is kind of a given with engineering, but I like when we need to come up with a creative solution to implement a feature. And then seeing the whole thing together with the art and the content.
What is your hidden talent?
I used to be a musician. I played the “cuatro de concierto.” Cuatro is a Venezuelan instrument similar to a guitar, but smaller with only four strings. I haven’t played in a long time but I’m trying to get back to it.
What is the best thing about working at Schell Games?
The people I work with. Schell Games is filled with very talented people. Working together with them makes me be a better engineer and the products we create together are top of the line.
What is one thing people would be surprised to know about you?
