The November issue of Nintendo Power Magazine features a preview of Jelly Kingdoms, Schell Games’ first DSi title set for release in Q1 2011. Loosely based on the Chinese historical saga Romance of the Three Kingdoms, Jelly Kingdoms puts you in the role of a young citizen who gets kicked out of the village and winds up in a world of lighthearted adventure and whimsical combat.
The gameplay combines a brain-teasing puzzle with adventure aspects. The hero is faced with hordes of enemies and attacks using the pieces on the puzzle board. These pioeces represent various attacks (swords, crossbows, throwing rocks), defensive maneuvers (healing potion, shield), and powerful magics that enhance your weapons. A series of turn-based battles are waged in each level, leading up to trickier enemies and more powerful bosses.
Players familiar with the story of the classic Romance of the Three Kingdoms will get to see some of their favorite characters rendered in Jelly form, and those who’ve never even heard of the series will be introduced to a delightfully epic adventure of colorful characters.
“We wanted to find a world with unique and heroic characters and lots of opportunities for epic battles,” director Bryan Cash shared with Nintendo Power. “Romance of the Three Kingdoms is chock-full of those and has plenty of room for humor based on just how ridiculously grandiose the story is.”
